This whimsical and highly detailed figure, Catalog R214, features a Yelloware rabbit in traditional German lederhosen riding a gallantly posed rooster. Hand-cast from a rare antique chocolate mold, this piece stands 5 ½ inches tall and represents a sophisticated blend of European and Early American folk traditions.
The figure is finished with my signature hand-mixed pigments to achieve the deep, honey-toned warmth of antique yelloware. Of special note is the redware-style base, which features a hand-painted Pennsylvania Dutch folk art design using traditional sgraffito and slip techniques. Every piece is meticulously glazed, antiqued, and hand-polished to replicate the soulful luster of heritage pottery. It is hand cast, hand-signed and dated "Bittersweet House Folk Art, Kathryn Campbell".
With its rich combination of yelloware tones and PA Dutch redware accents, this piece is a natural companion for a variety of heritage collections. It displays beautifully alongside primitive redware plates and sgraffito chargers, where the tulip motif on the base can echo the floral themes of the pottery.
For a more varied display, consider placing it among graduated yelloware bowls or near mochaware pieces with earthy slip decorations. The vertical presence of the rabbit on the rooster makes it an excellent focal point for a farmhouse mantel or a centered cupboard display.
