This 4-inch chalkware Mother Rabbit combines elements of early American motifs with German folk art traditions. Cast from a rare antique chocolate mold, she is depicted carrying her baby wrapped in a hand-painted pashmina with crewel-work detail.
The pashmina is decorated with delicate floral blossoms, while the darker base features a traditional border design inspired by early American folk art. This combination of rare German casting and the soul of American primitive painting makes R316 a distinctive signature piece.
R316 displays beautifully in a stepback cupboard or on a shelf beside early wood, baskets, and stoneware. The folk border and warm floral detail make it especially at home in primitive and colonial-inspired interiors.
