The Artistry

Catalog #R318 stands approximately 4 inches tall and is cast from a notably rare miniature chocolate mold by Anton Reiche of Dresden. The figure is especially appealing to collectors for the unusual detail: a mother rabbit carrying two distinct baskets.

To give this piece its well-loved character, I hand-mix my own colors to arrive at the muted, primitive shades associated with early folk art and painted surfaces. After painting, each rabbit is carefully antiqued by hand to create a soft patina that settles into the relief and brings out the mold’s crisp detail.

Styling Ideas

R318 is a natural fit for primitive and colonial-inspired collections. It tucks beautifully into a small shelf display with pantry boxes, early wood, and stoneware, where the scale and quiet finish feel authentic rather than decorative.

Product Details: Bittersweet House Folk Art preserves the character of antique confectionery molds by translating them into chalkware. Each piece is individually hand-cast, hand-painted, and antiqued, then signed, numbered, and dated on the bottom: Bittersweet House Folk Art, Kathryn Campbell.
