This tender and intricate piece depicts a Mother Rabbit carrying her baby in a woven basket on her back. Standing 4 inches tall, it is cast in chalkware using a highly detailed antique chocolate mold from the renowned Anton Reiche of Dresden, Germany.
In the basket, a tiny baby bunny is nestled beside a handful of freshly gathered eggs—an old-fashioned spring detail that gives this piece its charm. Softly antiqued tones keep the scene gentle and nostalgic.
The dress features a hand-painted spring meadow of lavender, clover blossoms and roses on an antiqued white surface. A simple black-trimmed apron provides contrast and structure to the softer floral painting.
R343 is especially pretty in a spring vignette with soft, collected colors. Display it with vintage Easter postcards, a small bundle of dried lavender, or a pale-washed pantry box. It also pairs beautifully with an antique basket, a faded ribbon spool, and a few speckled eggs tucked into moss or excelsior.
For a classic early-American folk look in lighter tones, place it alongside white ironstone, creamware, or blue-and-white spongeware, with a touch of greenery—boxwood, grapevine, or a few pressed flowers framed nearby.
