The Artistry

Standing at a charming 4 inches tall, the S475 Christmas Chalkware Belsnickle is a celebration of light and heritage. Cast from a traditional German chocolate mold, this Santa is finished in a warm, luminous ochre-yellow coat. This color was highly prized in early American folk art for its ability to brighten dark winter interiors, serving as the perfect "sunny" backdrop for hand-painted ornamentation.

The Design

The hand-painted design is inspired by Pennsylvania Fraktur, the decorated manuscript tradition of the German settlers. The yellow surface is adorned with quintessential folk motifs, including vibrant tulips and pomegranates edged in gold. The color palette—featuring deep reds and forest greens against the yellow ground—creates a striking visual contrast that mirrors the joyful, naive beauty of 18th-century folk painting.

Of Special Note:
To add a festive glint, Diamond Frost glass glitter is applied to the beard and boots, catching the light like a crisp morning frost. Each piece is individually cast in chalkware, hand-painted, signed, numbered, and dated by Kathryn Campbell.
