The Artistry

Standing at a petite 3.75 inches, the S477 Christmas Chalkware Santa is a beloved classic in the Bittersweet House collection. The design is a tribute to traditional Redwork embroidery—a popular 19th-century needlework style characterized by intricate red stitching on a crisp cream or white background. This "stitched in paint" technique gives the piece a nostalgic, textile-like quality that feels both cozy and sophisticated.

The Design

The ornamentation features fine, hand-painted botanical vines and rhythmic border motifs in a deep, traditional Turkey-red hue. The contrast against the soft cream base mimics the precision of fine needlepoint. For a touch of holiday magic, Diamond Frost glass glitter can be applied to the beard and the snow-covered base, providing a crystalline shimmer that beautifully complements the clean lines of the embroidery design.

Of Special Note:
Because of its timeless red-and-white palette, this Santa has historically been one of our most popular sellers. Its small stature makes it an ideal "shelf-sitter" or a standout addition to a larger chalkware collection. Each piece is individually cast in chalkware from an antique mold, hand-painted, signed, numbered, and dated by Kathryn Campbell.
