This 5.5-inch Folk Art Chalkware Belsnickle is a study in texture and traditional textile arts. The design is inspired by the rich history of crewel embroidery, translating the raised, organic feel of wool-thread needlework onto the smooth surface of hand-painted chalkware. The result is a Santa that feels as though he has stepped out of a period tapestry.
The coat features a stunning array of flowing botanical vines and stylized floral blooms, hand-painted with the intricate precision required to mimic fine stitchery. The deep, earth-toned palette enhances the antique feel, making the floral motifs appear to "grow" naturally across the figure's robes.
Of Special Note:
This Santa is cast from a rare Kutzscher of Germany antique chocolate mold. Known for their distinctive, dignified stance and exceptional detail, Kutzscher molds are highly coveted by collectors. The combination of this rare German mold and the unique crewel-inspired painting makes S560 a centerpiece of the Bittersweet House collection. Each piece is individually cast in chalkware, hand-painted, signed, numbered, and dated by Kathryn Campbell.
