The Artistry
A woodland story. The S645 Chalkware Belsnickle Santa is hand-cast from an antique Lauerösch chocolate mold and hand-painted with an antique-white cape. The traditional Belsnickle form is paired with simple, naïve imagery that gives the figure the charm of a storybook illustration.
The cape is hand-painted with small deer, a rabbit, slender trees, and sprigs of greenery arranged in a stylized folk art scene around the figure. Beneath it, the red undercoat is painted with repeating ivory scrollwork and rosette motifs, creating a lively contrast to the quieter cape design. A wreath of holly and red berries encircles the hood, tying the piece back to the Christmas season.
