The Artistry

A warm welcome. The S653 is an 8.5-inch Colonial chalkware Santa hand-cast from an antique chocolate mold, then hand-painted in a soft parchment palette with winterberries and botanical songbirds tucked among evergreen boughs. The overall effect is collected and quietly festive—an Early American mood in holiday form.

The painting is inspired by crewel-work embroidery, with layered foliage and berries arranged to feel textile-like and story-rich. A yellow finch nestles into the greenery on the front, while a red bird appears on the reverse, reaching toward a ripe persimmon. Over his shoulder, Santa carries a generous sack with a golden pineapple tucked inside—the historic emblem of welcome and hospitality.

Every sprig and feather is painted by hand to build depth and contrast, then finished with a gentle, vintage-style patina for an heirloom presence. Each piece is signed, numbered, and dated by Kathryn Campbell; subtle variations in brushwork make every S653 one of a kind.
